Out with Chuck and John

I went fishing with Chuck and John last Thursday morning.
It was a very rainy day and it took a while just to bail the boat.  I wore my new rain coat and it works just fine.  I did not need the pants.

The fishing was very slow.  Together we only caught about a dozen panfish and there were no bass or pickerel.  Chuck got a fine white perch.

I filleted them and sent that home with Chuck. Also, he tried his hand at filleting to get the feel.

I then took the carcass and yesterday morning fried those up for a crispy treat.  I had never done that before, but it worked well.  Some were just really crispy, bones and all.  Others had crispy bits of fish that slipped off the bones.  This is not the most healthy way to eat fish, but I've been a slug lately and have not gone myself.

There must be some here in the lake.
This week neighbor Chuck saw two.  One was about 2 feet long and he lost it.  One was just legal and I wrapped it in bacon, baked it, and we ate it here.
It was very good.

Cory Eliza Casey in the new boat...then my first night ride

It was a really beautiful weekend and today was a fine cap to it.
Troubling family matters aside, we had a fine meal of yellow perch and salmon, salad, watermelon, strawberries.

Then we went out for a spin around the lake.

Eliza came to visit and she enjoyed Casey and the ride.

She put Casey to be with a story.

When the dishes were done, I went back out in the dark of night with my lantern and the clamped on running light.

There was no moon.

There were no boats.  After a while of rowing I turned off the running light and left the lantern in a seat with the back shielding the light from me so that my eyes adjusted to the stars and the lights from houses.

Just around the bend near the buoy I turned off the lantern and just drifted.  It has been years since I've done that.  It was very peaceful and the cool night air was luscious.

The tooth bothers me some today and just now it is rather achy.  I am tired of the annoying aches and pains.  But my hands have cleared of the blisters or what every was affecting them.  I wore gloves to row.  Everything seems fine.

More gear

PIcked up rain pants and a rain jacket, a nice large sponge, and a few little LED lights that will be fine if I go out bullhead fishing .

Frank, Julie and Slyvia were here this weekend.  They head home tomorrow morning.  It has been a fine visit with them. Sylvia is such a treat!  Casey was here two days and the two cousins play very well together and enjoy each other easily.

Today I took both kids on a boat ride and had a second ride with just Frank.  it was very nice, especially since the boat has been winched up for almost two weeks.

We made a few casts but the fish were not biting much and we did not catch anything, but the ride itself with the little electric motor pushing us quietly along was a delight.

I did not row, but I will a bit tomorrow as the rain has finally tapered off and I left the boat chained to the dock so it will be there tomorrow.
Tuesday I get my tooth extracted.  I'm hoping it will not leave with painful dry socket.  I hated that when I was young and I had it when both wisdom teeth were taken out.  Perhaps I"ll get lucky this time.

We gilled a lot and today it was steak. Frank did the grilling and turned out some tasty meat.  I put the little kids' plastic picnic table up on the deck and Casey was delighted with it.  We use it so rarely.

Peter was not himself over the weekend.  Things are not well with him.  It is hard to know how it will all fall out.

I drank a bit.  Opened and finished a bottle of the cheap red wine from the place near Miller's.  Probably not the best idea, but it did cheer me up.

Tomorrow Frank and family head off to see Margot and Casey is suppose to go as well.  From there they head to the airport and back to Chicago.  I'll miss them.
Keith talked to me today . He was off to some Southern lunch place he has wanted to try.  I could hear the three kids in the background.

Dana and Cory both talked to me this week.  Dana is off tomorrow to Ireland and Cory is preparing for a trip to the Galapados.  Nice.
